About Us

Depression, anxiety and other mental disorders are common among young people today. However, there is a stigma that treatment of these illnesses is only for rich people with “first world problems”. Most young people therefore end up living with this depression for the rest of their lives, and it defines their character and lifestyle.

Established in 2018; Baagi Awareness Project is an initiative which strives to combat this stigma by educating young people about the importance of mental health. “Baagi'' is a Setswana word meaning “builders” and it stems from the key concept of development. Building a strong community starts with developing the roots. These roots are the youth, which the community looks to for future developments. Mental health is the water that nurtures these roots; a healthy mind, future outlook and thinking capacity creates a healthy perspective. With these tools, young people can build positively strong characters, to help curb other socio-economic imbalances such as unemployment and poverty.

VISION

AWARENESS: building knowledge and manifesting consciousness to young people about the importance of mental health.

ABSOLVE: to destigmatize the perception of mental health among our communities and free our people from living in fear and guilt.
